Porthcawl Maritime Centre: Its the age old problem for a family visiting Porthcawl for their annual holiday? That is, what to do if the weather takes a down turn and the rain comes in?
Liz Bradfield from Gem Local explained recently on Barry-Today.co.uk, what Porthcawl Maritime Centre will bring to the resort as well as the timescale as to when these facilities will open to the public.
As the tourist season winds down, work is set to begin on the futuristic £5.5 million Maritime Centre on Cosy Corner, alongside the harbour.
The project has a construction time scale of 56 weeks, so the building is expected to be nearing completion in just over a year’s time.
The centre is set to transform the town’s attractions, providing a 21st century coastal science and discovery centre – involving digital technology, artificial intelligence and holograms – as well as accommodation for 55, a restaurant offering European fusion food, a cafe, tapas bar, roof terrace and micro-brewery.
In addition there will be a gym along with a training pool and facilities for local community groups and organisations such as the Welsh Surfing Federation, the Sea Cadets, and SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity.
The project is being managed by the Credu Charity which was was formed in February 2018, coming out of the community interest company Porthcawl Harbourside that was set up in 2013.
A Credu spokesperson said that research suggests an additional 80,000 visitors could come to the town every year as a result.
